CENA FIXTURES 2009
The fixtures for the first half of the new season have been announced by CENA. The games concerning ENC are below:
CLUB START OF SEASON SOCIAL 2009
The club's first social event of the season has been confirmed. It will be bowling at Fountainbridge, 6:00pm on Saturday 26th September. It is for both the junior and senior clubs, so a big turn out is expected. It would be great for new players to get to know their team-mates a bit more, and generally get everyone togethor for something other than netball!
Please confirm your attendance by 17th of September. You can speak to Jackie Wallace at training, or email communications@edinburghnetballclub.co.uk and it will be passed on.
Hope to see you all there!
EDINBURGH SUCCESS AT NETBALL SCOTLAND AWARDS
Edinburgh Netball Club had yet more success this season, by winning two awards at the Netball Scotland AGM. The awards recieved were:
- 'Team Of The Year' - Onyx
- 'Umpire Of The Year' - Jeannie Garing
Thoroughly well deserved for both. Onyx had a great season winning both the CENA League and Scottish Cup, and were undefeated in the Kukri National League. Jeannie has had a great year, umpiring in the U17 European Championships, and, as ever, ENC is thankful for her umpiring at CENA.
Well done to all!
ONYX WIN SCOTTISH CUP!!
Edinburgh Onyx have beaten Bellahouston to win the 2009 Scottish Cup. Onyx overcame Bellahouston 57 - 55 in a narrow victory in the Citadel Leisure Centre, Ayrshire.
Bellahouston started the better team and went into the end of the first quarter 2 points ahead with the score at 16 – 14. Onyx then turned the game around in the 2nd quarter going into the lead 32- 30. Bellahouston again won the next quarter by 2 points and tying the score at 42-42. The 4th quarter was anyone’s game, however Onyx managed to hold off Bellahouston for a brilliant 57 – 55 win.
Well done guys - very well deserved!!
Also, well done to Royals for getting to the final of the Quaich final. They were beaten 50 - 19 by a sharp-shooting Edinburgh Uni 1 side, but I'm told you played very well, and the score doesn't necessarily reflect the game.
Well done to all! Some photos of the day are below:

A victorious (and rather sweaty) Onyx team.

The Royals side, who were apparently facing the wrong way.

ENC AGM 2008/2009
We had a great turnout this year (compared to last year!) and had a very productive AGM. It was interesting to hear how everyone found the season went, share our success stories and celebrate a great season for ENC. There were also Player of The Season awards, and they went as follows:
Onyx - Jackie Wallace
Scarlets - *joint winners* Anita Morrison and June Pressley
Royals - Gemma Sole
Oceans - Claire Hamilton
Congratulations to all!
We also elected new members of the exec, with some new 'ordinary members' (tbc), and Gill Stefaniuk taking up the position of Club Secretary for next year. Well done Gill, we know you'll do a great job! Keep an eye on the 'About Us' page to find out more about the exec and just exactly who we all are soon.
CENA Success
Edinburgh Netball Club once again dominated the City Of Edinburgh Netball League this year, with every division being won by an Edinburgh side.
Division One Champions - Onyx
Divsion Two Champions - Royals
Division Three Champions - Oceans
Also, Scarlets acheived a commendable third place in the first division, and a great season from our junior outfit sees them finish second in the third division. A terrific season everybody!
EDINBURGH SUCCESS IN NETBALL SCOTLAND AWARDS
Congratulations to our very own Daz Frielick who won Senior Club Coach of the Year and Jeannie Garing who won Club Umpire of the Year at the recent Netball Scotland AGM.
Daz has worked hard to establish Edinburgh Netball Club as one of the forces of scottish netball in her time as coach to the club. Daz has had to use varied coaching approaches to a club with various levels. In her time, she has won the CENA League, finished second in Kukri National League, and got to the semi finals of the Scottish Cup.
Jeannie has shown immense commitment to ENC, umpiring continuously over the past season as well as supporting Edinburgh District and other Leagues and competitions throughout the year making Jeannie a deserved winner of this award.
Well done and thankyou from everyone at the club!!
