ONYX CENA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
After an extremely impressive season, it was no surprise to anybody that, once again, Onyx have run out as Division 1 Champions of the City Of Edinburgh Netball League. They had a great season, with some fabulous results and great individual performances. An impressive goal difference of 466 - 331 greater than their nearest rivals Holyrood Thistles - speaks for itself. Well done and congratulations, Onyx!
Scarlets ended in a creditable 3rd spot in the league. They have impressed everyone with their prowess this season, and unfortunately a few close results just went the wrong way for them. A great showing nevertheless, and they did themselves proud this year. Well done, Scarlets!
Royals achieved their goal of playing first division netball next season, in the end comfortably avoiding relegation. Some gritty performances saw them stay two points clear of the drop zone, and in the end, they didn't even have a play-off to worry about. It is really great to see three ENC teams in the top flight of Edinburgh netball. great work, Royals!
Oceans also made sure they stay where they are next season, staying two points clear of the drop zone aswell. They have had a tough time of it this season, with players coming and going and not having steady coaching, but they have done extremely well and will be looking to improve and build upon this next season. Well done, Oceans!
EDINBURGH SUCCESS AT NETBALL SCOTLAND AWARDS
Edinburgh Netball Club had yet more success this season, by winning two awards at the Netball Scotland AGM. The awards recieved were:
- 'Team Of The Year' - Onyx
- 'Umpire Of The Year' - Jeannie Garing
Thoroughly well deserved for both. Onyx had a great season winning both the CENA League and Scottish Cup, and were undefeated in the Kukri National League. Jeannie has had a great year, umpiring in the U17 European Championships, and, as ever, ENC is thankful for her umpiring at CENA.
Well done to all!
ONYX WIN SCOTTISH CUP!!
Edinburgh Onyx have beaten Bellahouston to win the 2009 Scottish Cup. Onyx overcame Bellahouston 57 - 55 in a narrow victory in the Citadel Leisure Centre, Ayrshire.
Bellahouston started the better team and went into the end of the first quarter 2 points ahead with the score at 16 – 14. Onyx then turned the game around in the 2nd quarter going into the lead 32- 30. Bellahouston again won the next quarter by 2 points and tying the score at 42-42. The 4th quarter was anyone’s game, however Onyx managed to hold off Bellahouston for a brilliant 57 – 55 win.
Well done guys - very well deserved!!
Also, well done to Royals for getting to the final of the Quaich final. They were beaten 50 - 19 by a sharp-shooting Edinburgh Uni 1 side, but I'm told you played very well, and the score doesn't necessarily reflect the game.
Well done to all! Some photos of the day are below:

A victorious (and rather sweaty) Onyx team.

The Royals side, who were apparently facing the wrong way.

ENC AGM 2008/2009
We had a great turnout this year (compared to last year!) and had a very productive AGM. It was interesting to hear how everyone found the season went, share our success stories and celebrate a great season for ENC. There were also Player of The Season awards, and they went as follows:
Onyx - Jackie Wallace
Scarlets - *joint winners* Anita Morrison and June Pressley
Royals - Gemma Sole
Oceans - Claire Hamilton
Congratulations to all!
We also elected new members of the exec, with some new 'ordinary members' (tbc), and Gill Stefaniuk taking up the position of Club Secretary for next year. Well done Gill, we know you'll do a great job! Keep an eye on the 'About Us' page to find out more about the exec and just exactly who we all are soon.
CENA Success
Edinburgh Netball Club once again dominated the City Of Edinburgh Netball League this year, with every division being won by an Edinburgh side.
Division One Champions - Onyx
Divsion Two Champions - Royals
Division Three Champions - Oceans
Also, Scarlets acheived a commendable third place in the first division, and a great season from our junior outfit sees them finish second in the third division. A terrific season everybody!
EDINBURGH SUCCESS IN NETBALL SCOTLAND AWARDS
Congratulations to our very own Daz Frielick who won Senior Club Coach of the Year and Jeannie Garing who won Club Umpire of the Year at the recent Netball Scotland AGM.
Daz has worked hard to establish Edinburgh Netball Club as one of the forces of scottish netball in her time as coach to the club. Daz has had to use varied coaching approaches to a club with various levels. In her time, she has won the CENA League, finished second in Kukri National League, and got to the semi finals of the Scottish Cup.
Jeannie has shown immense commitment to ENC, umpiring continuously over the past season as well as supporting Edinburgh District and other Leagues and competitions throughout the year making Jeannie a deserved winner of this award.
Well done and thankyou from everyone at the club!!
