ABOUT US
ENC has and Executive Committee of volunteer members who are elected into their positions and ensure the smooth running of the club. They meet monthy to discuss operational matters and plan activities for the forthcoming season. The roles and responsibilities of each Executive member are outlined below.
PRESIDENT: Mhari Hargreaves
Hi all. I’ve been playing with ENC now for over five years and have spent much of that time on the exec in various roles so have a keen interest in the running of the club as well as playing. I love playing netball both for the competition and for the social side. I also think being part of a team is a great motivator when it comes to keeping fit – I’m sure I wouldn’t be so keen to go out to the gym on my own on a cold November night!
I’m really excited to be president of this club at the moment after the fantastic success we had on court last season. I’m keen to maintain that great run of form into this season. We have a hugely enthusiastic exec so I feel like we have the right team in place to take the club forward. It’s important to me that everyone enjoys their time at the club as well as us doing as well as we possibly can in the CENA league and our cup competitions. I’d love to know what you think of ENC whether you are a long-standing member or a new-comer please do take the opportunity to feed in your ideas and speaking to the exec members at training.
Outside of netball I’m an HR manager for a financial services company along with my other (more important!) job of being a mum to my 21 month old daughter Amelia. She is already obsessed with throwing any kind of ball so we have high hopes she’ll be a club member of the future!!
SECRETARY: Gill Stefaniuk
Hi all. After finishing studies at Edinburgh Uni in 08 I joined our local rivals: Edinburgh. I have been playing netball since a young age playing at competitive levels since juniors. After one year at Edinburgh with Scarlets (although not a whole year as I went travelling) I wanted to get more involved with the club so I volunteered for Secretary. I seem to have a weak spot for such a role after being secretary for my uni team for two years too!
As a “newbie” to the club last year everyone helped me settle in very quickly, putting fun into sport and fitness as well as catering for the competitively minded people. A great community of people and I thoroughly enjoy being a part of it!
TREASURER: Simone Gribble
I joined the Edinburgh Netball Club for the 2005/2006 season, playing with the Royals Division 2 team. Thanks to great coaching at the club I have since developed my skills and played in Division 1 with Scarlets last season, a very enjoyable 2008/2009. I have been playing netball in Australia since school and played for a season in the Somerset League when I first moved to the UK.
I would encourage everyone who is interested in playing competitive netball to join our club. We have great coaching and a great social atmosphere. We’re serious about netball but we have fun.
I was re-elected (unopposed, again!) as treasurer this season, so please feel free to approach me if you have any queries regarding club fees, payment options, ideas for fundraising, would like to attend a course, or anything to do with finance.
COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER: Ali Tod
I joined ENC as a junior in the U13's side, and have played for the club ever since. I captained the U15's side when we won the Scottish Cup, and was also a member of the U17's side that won the Scottish Cup. I then joined the Senior club where I played for Scarlets, and have since been promoted to the Onyx side. I'm really looking forward to my fifth (!) year with Seniors.
Since joining the senior club I have had lots of great experiences both on and off the court. Not only have I developed as a player, managing to get into the Scotland U21 squad for a time, but also as an umpire, getting my C-grade a couple of seasons ago. I love the competetive nature of the club, where there are loads of opportunities to play at as a high a level as you can. I also love the atmosphere within each of the teams, where there is lots of healthy banter!
I took over the role of Communications Officer last year, and am looking forward to my second year in the job. I run this website, email members of the club with all the latest news, and am first point of contact for the club. I am also coaching our U17s side this season, my first venture into coaching, so it should be interesting! I am also CENA Media Officer, and hope to get better coverage of netball in Edinburgh with match reports in local media publications. On top of all that I am also captain/coach of Edinburgh Napier University netball club, so I have lots going on!
If anyone has any suggestions about improving the website, questions about the club - be it junior or senior, enquiries about umpiring, questions about netball in Edinburgh or anything netball related at all, then drop me an email or you can probably catch me down on the courts!
